Building ClipGrap for FreeBSD

Posted Wednesday, November 5th 2014 in FreeBSD - Permalink

Clipgrab is a nice, simple utility to download Youtube videos.  The version in the FreeBSD ports tree is out of date, and does not work with the current Youtube page interface. The current version can be downloaded at http://clipgrab.org/. Download the Linux sources.

Next, you need to have the QT4 libraries installed. This is simple,

# pkg install qt4

Next, we can configure and compile the code,

% qmake-qt4 -spec freebsd-g++ clipgrab.pro
% make

If you get an error from make about g++ not being found, enter the following commands:

# ln -s /usr/local/bin/gcc48 /usr/bin/gcc
# ln -s /usr/local/bin/g++48 /usr/bin/g++

and then run make again.

Next, you will need ffmpeg to convert files.

# cd /usr/ports/multimedia/ffmpeg
# make config

Ensure that the LAME option is selected. Then, build the port,

# make install

You should now be able to download Youtube videos!
