Screensaver Quick Disable

Posted Saturday, November 17th 2012 in FreeBSD, Linux - Permalink

I wrote a small Perl script that will allow you to quickly disable your Xscreensaver, for example while watching a film or playing an OpenGL game. You can find the script here. This app will display an icon in the system panel tray (the Gtk notification area).

Installation instructions are included in the README file. Basically, just unzip the archive into the folder ~/saverchange/, install the necessary Perl libraries, and run the application.

If the button doesn’t appear to be working, make sure that you have the file .xscreensaver in your home directory. If you do not, you can open the Xscreensaver configuration window and close it. This will create the file.
